After Ann Lorraine Colis' victory as Miss Globe 2015, there was much confusion when she was mentioned as the first titleholder from the Philippines as Maricar Balagtas was mentioned in the conversation when she won in 2001.
The Philippines, through Maricar won the Miss Globe International 2001 contest which is based in Turkey while Miss Globe, to which Ann Colis is the reigning winner is based in Toronto, Canada.
Maricar earned the right to join Miss Globe International 2001 when she was appointed by Madam Stella Marquez Araneta as she was Bb. Pilipinas 2nd Runner Up in 2001. 3 years later, she was Miss Universe Philippines 2004 where she represented the country at Quito, Ecuador.
